Top 10 Tips & Tricks for FIFA MANAGER 09

1. Line-up
If you are looking for suggestions for a particular position when you're selecting your line-up, move the cursor to the appropriate player and press SHIFT.

2. Individual instructions
To give individual instructions to several players simultaneously, you can select them at the left of the field by holding down the CTRL key. Select all players using SHIFT+A; with SHIFT+I you invert the current selection. You can also drag a frame around several players to select them.

3. Menu shortcuts
When you press SHIFT and F1-F8 in one of the main menu screens, you allocate the corresponding F-key to this screen. Press the F-key again to call up the selected menu directly.

4. Calendar
At the end of each year, set the event "Player Awards". This enhances the morale of the honoured players.

5. Player conferences
Always talk to as many different players as possible. You can influence the development of individual capabilities (e.g. headers) in a targeted manner via the new player conferences. With younger players it can also be an advantage to get them to train more with their weak foot. Experienced players can support new teammates from their own country who do not speak the language of the team they are playing for.

6. Youth transfer market
Give your best young players contracts early to prevent attempts to poach them by other clubs. Too many players in a youth team reduce the likelihood of other players wanting to switch to your team. Get rid of players who have no future prospects in your team. A good youth trainer is good insurance against poaching attempts from other clubs.

7. Scouting
A scout between levels 1-20 will find a maximum of 10 players simultaneously during "General Scouting", while a scout with a level higher than 80 will find up to 20 players that meet your criteria. The number and length of the scout missions as well as the previous experience of a scout determine whether he will attain a higher level after a mission. A scout must have attained at least Level 21 in order to specialise in a country. As of Level 61 he can simultaneously acquire up to 3 specialisms.

8. Integrating your own music
You can integrate your own MP3 tracks in various parts of the game.

Game preview: Individual clubs can be equipped with their own music in the game preview screen of a game day by copying a "[ClubID].mp3" file into the "user\songs" directory. The ClubID of each club is located in the database editor.

Stadium music: To integrate the entrance music of other clubs, copy the corresponding MP3 file into the "user\songs\stadiumentry" folder and name it "[ClubID].mp3" in the same way.

Goal music: The same procedure applies to the general goal music of a club. Copy a "[ClubID].mp3" file into the "user\songs\goalmusic" folder.

9. Text mode
Please note that the break bar shows the assumed degree of a scoring opportunity. The actual degree of opportunity will then be integrated in the rating. If, for instance, a player takes off from 30 metres, the opportunity is initially small, but if the goalkeeper passes and a striker is suddenly standing in front of the empty goal, a small opportunity and a large opportunity are counted. The probability of an opportunity depends primarily on the strength of the two centre field line-ups. The larger the difference, the greater the probability of an opportunity for the better side. The quality of an opportunity is determined, among other things, by the strength of the offence compared to the strength of the defence. The better the offence does in comparison, the more valuable the opportunity will be on average. Thus, if you replace a striker with a defender, you'll increase the chance of big opportunities for both sides. This way you can generate games with lots of goals.

10. Character is important
Players with high levels of determination, strong leadership or concentration are influenced less by negative events during the game (e.g. goals of the opposing team, severe injuries of players). You should not put players with high levels of aggression in the critical positions of centre back or defensive centre fielders; this results in too many penalty cards, as these players carry out lots of one-on-one battles there.
